Okavango sub-district is said to be experiencing high rate of teenage pregnancy.
It has been revealed at the ongoing Okavango sub-district council session that a total of 105 cases were registered during this quarter as compared to 90 in the previous quarter.
The sub-district council chairperson, Mr Mpoke Karapo said three teenage pregnancy cases of primary school girls aged 10-14 years were recorded at Seronga, Xakao and Xaxa. He also noted that 50 cases were referred to social workers.
Also, the chairman said Okavango DHMT recorded two deaths in Gumare due to default of Anti-Retroviral Therapy.
Still on health issues in the district, Mr Karapo said contractors for the upgrading of Kauxwi health post clinic were on site.
“Works were delayed as the old plot was small for the plan and a new plot was allocated where the work is at 28 per cent for the clinic and 6 per cent for the staff houses. Completion date is yet to be revised,” he said.
As for the upgrading of Ngarange health post to clinic, Mr Karapo said staff houses were at 88 per cent while the clinic was at 50 per cent complete.
He however noted that the company was experiencing challenges in the delivery of materials which were caused by distant suppliers and ferry issues.
The sub district council chairperson therefore said the program of works and completion date would be revised. Ends
