Ngami Regional Health Management registers 23 recoveries

25 Nov 2020

The Ngami Regional Health Management Team (RHMT) has registered 23 COVID-19 recoveries to date with only one active case at the moment.

This was revealed by Maun Administration Authority (MAA) Chairman, Mr Vepaune Moreti when officially opening the MAA sub-council meeting on Tuesday.

Mr Moreti said the Ngami RHMT had conducted a total of 1081 tests to date and had trained 469 people on contact tracing.

He noted that the RHMT had also empowered schools in the sub-region to be able to handle any possible cases of COVID-19.

Mr Moreti said representatives from schools had been trained to carry out examinations to quarantined and isolated learners.

Regarding the community testing sentinel survey that commenced on October 12 and expected to be completed on December 31, Mr Moreti said 633 samples had been collected so far out of the 3 480 target and that two positive cases had been registered through the survey.

The survey, he said, targeted eight public places in Maun such as Maun Police station, Maun International Airport, Letsholathebe Memorial Hospital, Boseja Clinic, Kagiso Funeral Parlour, BOFWA, Maun Technical College, Old Mall and Bus Rank.

Mr Moreti further said the COVID-19 Laboratory that was under construction at Matshwane Clinic was behind schedule although near completion.

He therefore said the RHMT had currently designated the Out Patient Department at Maun General Hospital as the temporary COVID-19 laboratory.

When commenting, councilor for Senonnori-Boro, Mr Kenson Kgaga raised concern about children whom he said walked about 18 kilometres to school in harsh weather conditions and dangerous wild animals.

Mr Kgaga also said there was shortage of medical doctors in the region and no action was taken to address the situation.

Bombadi-Thito Councilor, Mr Kebonyemodisa Ramalapo advised that non-communicable diseases should not be forgotten while focusing on diseases such as COVID-19.

Mr Ramolapo said kidney disease was rampant in the North West district but nothing much was done to address it. Ends
