Cross-border travel resumes December

23 Nov 2020

Government has taken a decision to allow  movement of cross-border passenger transport with effect from December 1.

The announcement was made by Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Thulagano Segokgo, during a media briefing on Sunday.

He said the decision would affect a number of border gates including Tlokweng, Ramatlabama, Kazungula, Ramokgwebana, Mamuno and Martins Drift.

Outlining measures that needed to be taken towards preventing the   spread of corona virus, Mr Segokgo said bus operators would have to ensure vehicles were disinfected regularly, both interiorly and exteriorly, as well as keeping them clean.

“Passengers must present a valid test certificate that shows that they are negative of COVID-19,” he explained.

The certificate, he explained,  should be dated not later than 72 hours from the time that one departed.

In addition, Mr Segokgo said passengers would be required to wear face masks throughout the trip.

Bus operators would have to keep a register of all passengers while food and beverage sales would be prohibited, he said.

Mr Segokgo also clarified that all vehicles would have to observe the proper loading capacity.

For his part, Department of Road Transport and Safety deputy director, Mr Godwin Tlhogo said operators should ensure that all the necessary documentation such as permits and road worthy certificates were in place before departure. Ends
