CEDA gift for protecting ICT equipment from excessive heat

Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA) has donated an air conditioner worth over P12 000 to Moremi Memorial Primary School in Maun as part of their corporate social responsibility.
The air conditioner would be installed in the school’s computer laboratory to protect computers from excessive high temperatures experienced in the Ngamiland region.
Speaking during the handing over ceremony recently, Maun Administrative Authority deputy chairperson, Mr Petrus Tjetjoo commended CEDA for supporting projects beyond its business horizon.
Noting that CEDA’s mandate was to support SMME sector development through financial assistance as well as providing relevant training and mentoring, Mr Tjetjoo said the entity went an extra mile to augment government efforts in enhancing learning and teaching.
The donation, he said, was in line with the government agenda of pushing the country closer towards a digitally-led economy through usage of information communication technology (ICT).
In addition, Mr Tjetjoo said CEDA’s gesture was an indication that the country was on the right path towards the 4th industrial revolution.
He expressed appreciation for the support CEDA had extended to the North West District education system citing a donation of computers to Sehithwa Primary School in 2018.
“This is not just a gift but it is a commitment, an indication for the long run and I urge you to continue with the good spirit of assisting where possible,” he added.
Maun CEDA branch manager, Mr Edward Magosi said his organisation had a unique relationship with Moremi Memorial Primary School because it had a special unit catering for children with intellectual disability.
He said the donation followed a meeting held with the school management last week to appreciate challenges.
An air conditioner for the computer lab was considered ideal given the high temperatures experienced in the region, he said.
CEDA, Mr Magosi said, recognised the importance of ICT in schools especially since the country was readying itself for the 4th industrial revolution.
He said CEDA had also extended a helping hand to some Okavango Sub-district schools such as Mokgacha and Mogotlho.
The organisation donated masks and stationery to pupils and staff in both schools, he said.
“We are not only focusing on schools in Maun but are willing to assist other schools which are in dire need of resources where possible,” he added.
Thanking CEDA for the noble gesture, Moremi school head, Ms Ngonda Setlhare pleaded for adoption of the school noting that the two parties had established a strong partnership dating back to 2016.
Their journey, she said, started during a teachers’ award event which CEDA supported.
Ms Setlhare said the school was performing well academically having attained an 87 per cent pass rate in last year’s Primary School Leaving Examinations.
However, she said the good performance had become a challenge as it attracted a lot of pupils.
Consequently, the high enrolment resulted in shortage of resources, she said. ends
