11 Nov 2020
Introduction of investment incentives for Selebi Phikwe Economic Diversification Unit (SPEDU) has inspired citizen owned companies to invest in Selebi Phikwe.
Better Service Group is one of the companies that took advantage of these incentives.
The company’s major products are exercise books and stationery such as invoice books and related products.
“We started operations in January 2019 and we have currently employed 37 people, said production supervisor, Mr Onkemetse Molefhi.
The company manufactures and supplies stationary to various organisations particularly schools.
It was awarded a tender by the Selebi Phikwe Town Council (SPTC) to supply books to all the 11 primary schools in the town.
“The 30 per cent government offtake certificate has also boosted us to win tenders from various councils and we supply as far as Hukuntsi and Kasane,” said Mr Molefhi.
Best Services intends to turn Selebi Phikwe into a paper town hence dreams of establishing a paper factory.
“This will cut down our expenses as we are currently procuring paper and other materials from South Africa,” added Mr Molefhi
He pleaded with other companies particularly councils to procure from the company.
“We do not compromise on quality hence our books being durable,” he said.
The P12m self-funded project has the potential to create 120 jobs once fully operational.
The investor signed a lease agreement with Botswana Development Corporation for 4 000 square metres factory space in December 2017 and operates in one of the BDC owned factories.
At full capacity, Better Service Group would be able to produce up to 5 000 books, depending on the orders. The SPEDU incentives include, among others, five per cent corporate tax for the first five years, zero customs duty on imported raw materials as well as 30 per cent government off-take. ends
