President appreciates frontline workers

10 Nov 2020

President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has  thanked the frontline workers, particularly, the medical doctors, health professionals, immigration officials, truck drivers and the law enforcement agencies, for their outstanding and exemplary contribution to the containment of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Delivering the State-of-the-Nation Address, November 9,  the  President  also recognised and appreciated the private sector, civil society, development partners and individuals alike for their continued support to government’s efforts to fight the coronavirus pandemic, including their contribution to the COVID-19 Relief Fund.

He further commended Members of Parliament for the support of the state of emergency extension.

“I wish to express my profound gratitude to Members of Parliament for their support to government in approving the extension of the State of Emergency which meant to contain the spread and transmission of COVID-19. This is indeed a clear manifestation of political maturity and patriotism by all of us despite our political differences. We may have differed politically, but at the end of the day we have to put Botswana first,” he said

He thanked Batswana and residents for continuing to comply with COVID-19 health protocols, a move he said would significantly save many lives in Botswana.

Dr Masisi said following the onset of COVID-19 the government focused more sharply on promoting Botswana’s digitization, providing quality education and ensuring that the people had reliable electricity, water, roads, hospitals and schools. Ends
