Employees donate to Moroka Primary School
09 Nov 2020
Employees of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing Development in Masunga have donated 24 blankets and toiletries to Moroka Primary School.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony of the donations recently, Minister Mmusi Kgafela said government continued to encourage individuals, private sector and non-governmental organisations to be compassionate towards the less privileged members of society.
Minister Kgafela, therefore, commended employees for having seen it fit to lend a helping hand.
He explained that the donation came after the employees realised that there was a serious shortage of basic necessities such as toiletries and therefore encouraged other government departments or individuals to follow suite.
Minister Kgafela also encouraged pupils to work hard towards their academic endeavor since it was up to them to determine their future, adding that society expected doctors, engineers, teachers, lawyers among them.
The school head, Mr Gobe Letsholathebe, promised that the donation would be put to good use.
He appealed to government to provide a back-up generator to the pupils’ hostels to assist during the frequent electricity cut-offs.
On other issues, Mr Letsholathebe said most of the teachers at the school were commuting from outside Moroka due to lack of accommodation, whilst some continue to share staff houses despite their marital status.
He said there was also a serious shortage of classrooms as the number of pupils continued to increase on yearly basis, revealing that the school only had five classrooms.
One of the pupils, Tshepang Maja congratulated the employees of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing Development for giving a helping hand.
Moroka Primary School is the only school in the North East district, which has a Special Education Unit catering for 24 learners.
Meanwhile, the same employees donated a standpipe, fenced the yard as well as food hampers and toiletries to 86-year-old Gaborate Mahaule of Nlaphwane village, who also lives with her wheel chair bound grandson, Mr Donald Jutas.
In his welcome remarks, Kgosi Mukani Mudongo of Nlaphwane thanked the employees for the gesture, saying it was encouraging to see civil servants heeding the President’s call to assist the less privileged members of the society.
For his part, Minister Kgafela thanked the employees for the donations, saying they will give Ms Mahaule dignity.
Speaking on behalf of his grand grandmother, Mr Jutas thanked the employees for the gesture saying it is more blessed to give than to receive. ENDS
