Gure rolls out Monwana le Mokento campaign

General practitioner at Gaborone’s MEDEXO Private Clinic, Dr Thusang Gure, in partnership with Diagnofirm and other stakeholders embarked on a health campaign called Monwana le Mokento.
Speaking in an interview, Dr Gure said since November was the international month for Men’s Health, he felt the need to raise awareness on prostate cancer, hence the campaign.
Dr Gure noted that the campaign was referred to as Monwana le Mokento because of the manner through which it was to be conducted.
He said the process was also referred to as the digital rectum examination, saying the index finger is inserted into the rectum so as to check the Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA).
Dr Gure noted that the campaign would run for the whole of November and he intended to reach out to 1 000 men in Gaborone and surrounding areas.
He said through the campaign, men would receive free consultation, free blood tests and screening, among others.
He also said those who undertook tests would receive free medical attention accordingly, depending on the outcomes of the results.
Dr Gure further noted that during the campaign, although the testing process was referred to as Monwana le Mokento, not all men who came for medical attention would be put through the digital rectum examination.
“Men who come with strong suspicious symptoms such as swollen testicles and difficulty in passing urine will be put through the digital rectum examination while others will go through screening and blood tests,” he said.
Dr Gure explained that prostate was one of the crucial organs in a man’s reproductive system and expressed concern that most men were not well informed about it.
He added that some men engaged in strenuous and risky activities, yet were reluctant to visit health facilities for routine checks.
Further, Dr Gure said some men were reluctant to go for medical check-up even when the symptoms were evident.
Therefore, he urged men to show keen interest towards the campaign, saying all the services were carried out in a confidential and friendly manner.
Moreover, he said the services were meant to strengthen families.
Meanwhile, Dr Gure further said they desired to extend the campaign and other related services to other parts of the country.
However, he said his clinic was not licensed to franchise its services. ENDS
