Women football team off to COSAFA champs

03 Nov 2020

Botswana senior women national team left today for South Africa where it will compete in the COSAFA  Women Championships.

Botswana's opening game would be on Saturday against Tanzania at Wolfson Stadium, while on Monday (November 9), it would lock horns with Zimbabwe.

The stakes are high since Batswana will be expecting the team to surpass its last edition performance where it made it to the last four.

Botswana Football Association (BFA) spokesperson, Tumo Mpatane said the team was ready to compete. Mpatane said coaches were happy with the amount of work they had done in a short time.

“It is also important that the team has been referred to by the coach as the cream of women’s football because it has the best players we have in the country,” he said.

The team, he said, was blessed with a blend of youth and experience.

Furthermore, Mpatane said  Botswana would go into the tournament to prove a point that women’s football in the country was making strides.

“And we are happy that they want to go out there and represent the nation and we must emphasise that the draw on its own is appetising. You look at the two course meal that we have been given, Zimbabwe as well as Tanzania, these are teams that we can compete against and salvage something,” he said. ends
