Otse expedition Sunday

28 Oct 2020

The Otse Expedition Trails Mountain Bike (MTB) race will take place in Otse on Sunday after it was postponed due to lockdown restrictions.

The race organiser, Daniel Mophuting indicated that they chose MTB considering the hilly terrain in the area, which he believed was a perfect sport for the race.

He said the route chosen had untapped wilderness, which was enough to challenge the cyclists.

“We will be doing an expedition to show potential cyclists, tourists and sponsors all the possibilities the event can bring,” he said.

Divided into 50km, 35km and 10km distance routes, Mophuting said there would be more of scenic places for riders as they traverse through the village.

“However, we chose to be easy on technical sections, but speed and focus will be beneficial for cyclists,” Mophuting said.

He said their intention was to have 50 cyclists adding that they would have different ctaegories such as, youth 10-16, juniors 17-18, under 23, elite 23-29, subvets 30-39, vets 40-49 and masters 51+.

Due to the adherence of COVID-19 safety protocols, Mophuting said the race would start in batches.

“This is the beginning of a great annual event,” he noted saying they hope to make the event a two-day camping race as was the initial plan.

Otse Expedition Trails is sponsored by KGM consultants, D&G Cycles, Western Insurance, global Holdings, Havai, 3G Mobiles, SignXpert, OGTS and B4H among others.

Registration for the race is ongoing at D&G Cycles for P150 50km, 35km and 10km. The start and finish point of the race is Baratani Lodge in Otse. ENDS
