Khwai Primary School to open next year

Construction of teachers’ houses at Khwai Primary School is reportedly progressing well.
North West District Council chairman, who is also the area councillor for Khwai/Mababe, Mr Kebareeditse Ntsogotlho revealed in an interview that the council managed to secure funding to assist with the completion of the school.
Currently, he said five staff houses were under construction, noting that progress status stood at 90 per cent. He said he anticipated that the school, which looks more like a lodge as it is nicely thatched, would open its doors next year.
Mr Ntsogotlho explained that the school was a donation from the Gross family and it was incomplete with seven classrooms, administration block, dining hall, ablution blocks and a kitchen. It was reported that initially, the donor wanted four classrooms, a kitchen, dining hall and an administration block, but the scope changed to add a refuse bay and ablution blocks.
Mr Ntsogotlho said the council also managed to construct another ablution block and installed geysers, adding that the contractor was currently painting the interior and hoped the works would be completed by end of this month.
He also noted that once the staff houses were complete, water connection would start, adding that since the village had no electricity, there might be a delay in installation of solar power.
The school, he said would admit all classes from standard one to seven. Mr Ntsogotlho also promised to fast-track pending issues to ensure the school was fully compete for children to access education closer to their homes.
The project, which was a brainchild of the former area MP, Mr Konstantinous Markus, started in 2015, after he shared his idea with the donor.
He was concerned that children stayed far from their parents, lacked parental guidance and thus some absconded from school.
Some children from Khwai are in boarding school at Kareng, about 350km from their village. Ends
