VP consoles Otisitswe family

The Vice President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane, has said the late Baolwetse  Otisitswe was a true democrat who believed in supporting the people of Botswana and Botswana Democratic Party (BDP). 

Conveying message of condolences to  Otisitswe’s family at memorial service in  Serowe on October 22, the Vice President who is also Member of Parliament for Boteti West said he was saddened by the passing  of Otisitswe.

Otisitswe aged 62 years old died after a short illness at his home in Serowe. He was a former member of Botswana Defence Force and was also a business man at Mogoditshane. 

“He dedicated her entire life to the affairs of the ruling Botswana Democratic Party. His death is not only a loss to the family but to the whole nation,” Mr Tsogwane   said.

He described the deceased as a steward and public servant who had dedicated his life to contributing positively towards building the nation. He said Otisitswe's untimely death shocked many especially BDP members throughout the country.

“Death like a cruel thief in the night has robbed us of one of the most productive citizen of this country and it is on that note that on behalf of all Batswana, BDP followers and President of Botswana, I extend the country's most heartfelt sincere condolences to the Otisitswe families,’’ he said.

Mr Tsogwane also used the  opportunity to  condemn gender based violence (GBV), which he said was spreading like a veldt fire in Botswana saying it was time to take action to fight against all kinds of GBV.

He also talked about COVID-19 pandemic and appealed to Batswana to adhere to COVID-19 protocols. He said the government was on its toes fighting the scourge.  

Kweneng East BDP regional chairperson Major Driver Motlokwa, praised Otisitswe for being a supportive to his family as well as the party.

He described  Otisitswe, whom he met in 1978 when he joined  Botswana Defence Force (BDF), as a hard worker and ‘jack of all trades.’ Major Motlokwa said Chester as Otisitswe was affectionately called executed his duties well and was a master of parade and parachute skills. 

He noted that while he was doing his businesses in Mogoditshane he adopted Solomon Dihutso Primary school and participated in the development of  Mogoditshane.

Various speakers described  him as a peace loving individual  who always gave advise to his close friends and family.   

Otisitswe is survived by his wife and four children, two boys and two girls. 

He was laid to rest on October 24. Ends
