Tender irregularities hamper dev.

25 Oct 2020

Residents of Komana have been informed that court has ruled for a re-tendering of construction of education facilities at a primary school in the village.

Area councillor, Mr Zahorerua Maoveka said this during a kgotla meeting addressed by the area MP, Mr Dumelang Saleshando recently.

He said the tender would be floating until November 20.

He was responding to comments raised by the school’s Parents and Teachers Association chairperson, Mr Bannabakae Sebopiwa, who complained about delay to implement projects due to irregularities in tendering process.

Mr Maoveka  urged residents to remain calm since the classroom block project would be implemented as planned.

He told the meeting that the toilet project was progressing well and at 74 per cent.

As for construction of guard room, Mr Maoveka said the project would be implemented through Community Constituency Programme for  the 2020/21 financial year.

Mr Sebopiwa had complained that they were long promised a classroom block, but later told that the project had been halted and was before court.

He said urged relevant authorities to follow the right channel when awarding tenders to speed up project implementation.

Failure to follow the right procedures, he said, would breed corrupt practices.

He said the delay in projects implementation also affected staff since they worked in unfavourable and demoralising conditions.

Mr Sebopiwa raised a complain about lack of internet connectivity stating that they were promised that it would be connected at the school and clinic, but it did not hapopen.

North West District Council deputy council chairperson, Mr Lekonne Masoko, said the council could not turn a blind eye on issues of the law, hence the delay in projects implementation.

He also conceded that delays in project implementation across the district was a serious concern, adding that they had engaged the legal unit to look for ways to tighten the process.

Member of village development committee, Mr Lekgowa Molefi, said general maintenance at Komana Primary School was a challenge noting that classrooms and teachers’ houses were infested by bats.

He complained about water at the school stating that at times the water was rusty.

He called for upgrading of Komana health post into a clinic, and complained about shortage of staff houses at the clinic.

Mr Molefi also requested for special constables at Komana Satelite police post and a vehicle. Ends
