Safari team embarks on another charity cycling challenge

21 Oct 2020

Members of Trans- Okavango Charity Cycle team will embark on another cycling activity to raise funds for one member of the partner organisation Naletsena Charity Organization, who is said to be struggling with a rare auto immune disease.

The team recently embarked on a cycling event from Seronga to Maun, which raised funds to relieve safari workers and the needy community from the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In an interview,  team coordinator, Lemme Dintwa confirmed that one member of the Naletsana organization was critically ill and struggling to pay off her medical bills,   which stood at P250 000.

Naletsana is an organisation aimed at transforming the livelihoods of communities residing in the Okavango Delta.

He explained that the rare auto immune disease could only be treated after many tests had been conducted, but he appreciated that cancer had been ruled out following some tests.

Dintwa said this time, they would cycle 600 kilometres from Kasane to Maun despite the high temperatures as they intended to raise funds and clear the pending P250 000 medical bill.

The cycling is expected to start in Kasane on Sunday with Maun set as the final destination on October 31st.

Dintwa appealed to the business community and the community at large to support their mission as they intended to touch lives and impact positively on the community.

One kilometre, he said, could be sponsored with 50 thebe.

He appreciated that some safari companies and individuals were already on board.

Trans-Okavango Charity Cycle team was formed this year to support charity activities as well as promote local tourism following the devastating impact of COVID-19 on the sector.  Ends
