Residents want govt to tarmack road
18 Oct 2020
Residents of Kgomokasitwa in the Southern District have expressed a long standing desire for the 10km gravel road that links their village with the outside world, tarmacked.
They made the call during a kgotla meeting addressed by the area MP, Mr Thapelo Letsholo recently.
While they unanimously appreciated Mr Letsholo’s active representation on the issue and many others around their village and Kanye North constituency in general, they said nothing would make them happier than having the road tarmacked.
The chorus of pleas was opened by Kgosi Tshetlha Radimpa in his welcome remarks.
He said the road was in such a bad state that it damaged their vehicles and exposed users to accidents.
Over a sustained period, he said they had appealed to government, through different platforms, to improve the road quality, but their cries seemed to have fallen on deaf ears.
Village Development Committee chairperson, Mr Ephraim Mpolokang also jumped onto the bandwagon with a proposition that the road be graded on a regular basis to make it usable while awaiting its tarmac.
He said the road was last graded in April.
Another resident, Mr Rider Kgosiemang said they would give anything to have the stretch betuminised.
Mr Letsholo had meanwhile informed residents that the road was among his top five priorities for the constituency.
He argued that tarmacking the road could go a long way in creating many opportunities for residents.
He also informed residents that he would form a non-partisan advisory board that would help him pick and address critical issues around the constituency.
He said the board would comprise a member from each of the nine council wards. Ends
