Kwa Nokeng Oil donates to Kavimba

18 Oct 2020

Kwa Nokeng Oil Company has donated a bus shelter and two rubbish bins to Kavimba in the Chobe District.

Speaking at the handing over of the donation recently, Chobe Land Board chairperson, Mr Johane Chenjekwa, thanked the company for taking note of his request to build a bus shelter in Kavimba.

He explained that prior to approaching Kwa Nokeng Oil Company, the Kavimba tribal authorities had approached the land board to assist with a shelter since people were exposed to harsh weather elements while waiting for public transport and since the board had no funds, he sought assistance from key stakeholders.

Mr Chenjekwa applauded Kwa Nokeng Oil and other companies that ploughed back into the community previously and encouraged those that were lagging behind to take leaf as government alone could not afford to provide all services.

He implored the residents of Kavimba to take good care of the shelter, which is the only one in the Chobe West villages and to ensure it is free from graffiti.

Mr Chenjekwa said the Land Board will continue to join hands with other stakeholders to help the government in availing some resources to the community of Chobe.

Earlier Kgosi Josephat Mwezi in his welcome remarks, said he approached Mr Chenjekwa on behalf of the Kavimba residents about the need for the bus shelter last year during a Land Administration Procedures, Capacity and Systems (LAPCAS) kgotla meeting.

Kgosi Mwezi said the donation may seem of small magnitude, it will make a big a difference in the lives of the residents as it will protect them from rain and scorching sun. He implored the residents to continue to adhere to COVID-19 protocols.

Kwa Nokeng Oil corporate and social responsibility manager, Ms Masi Masalila-Moremi said the company aims at supporting the communities they operate in before considering others.

She said as the on-going social responsibility in Chobe, the company assist the Ministry of Health and Wellness with a quarantine facility for truck drivers awaiting their COVID-19 results and they are provided with free ablutions and Wi-Fi.

Ms Masalila-Moremi requested the village leadership to inform Kwa Nokeng in Panda every time the shelter and the rubbish bins need to be repainted.

Proposing a vote of thanks, the area councillor Mr Chimney Molelwane said the shelter and the bins are an investment in Kavimba. He said the rubbish bins demonstrate that Kwa Nokeng cares about the environment.

Cllr Molelwane requested the council secretary to ensure that litter was collected from the bins before litter can scatter in the environment. ENDS
