Good roads enhance economic efficiency - Gare
14 Oct 2020
Moshupa/Manyana MP, Mr Karabo Gare, says there is need for quality roads to enhance economic competence of the area.
Speaking during a series of kgotla meetings in Manyana, Bikwe and Mogonye recently, Mr Gare said the Manyana-Moshupa road remained critical in terms of enhancing economic efficiency and competence of the area.
Mr Gare, who is also Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security, said truck drivers preferred the Lobatse route instead of going through Moshupa because they avoided the Polokwe gradient that was difficult to navigate, thus not benefitting the businesses in the constituency.
Minister Gare said quality infrastructure such as roads were enablers of production, therefore quality roads in farming zones remained paramount since it would boost food security.
He challenged constituents to explore the value chain of agriculture and strive to set up processing plants in production zones that would create employment and inject money into the constituency.
He said to attain national food security and global competitiveness in agricultural products, there was need to enhance quality of roads in production and farming zones as they impacted on both production and marketing of such products.
He said the Moshupa Sub-district ploughed over 16 000 hectares per season, something he said contributed significantly to the national grain and cutting down of the hefty import bill that stood at P7 billion annually.
He argued that the area was good for tourism and agriculture, hence the need for quality roads to traverse the area.
For his part, Kgosi Kebinatshwene Mosielele of Manyana challenged constituents to utilise the first rains and remained optimistic for a bumper harvest for the 2020/21 ploughing season, given the heavy pours this week.
He expressed the wish for people to start cultivating the lands as early as tomorrow in order to leverage from the recent rain’s soil moisture.
On other issues, Kgosi Mosielele pleaded with relevant authorities to provide amenities at Manyana plateau, an area with 3 000 residential plots.
He was optimistic that the constitutional review would put more emphasis on Tribal Territory’s Act as they wish to perform their cultural activities without any hinderance.
He condemned illegal sand mining in his area , adding that trusts should be given powers to manage sand mining and sell the commodity to inject money into villages, arguing that projects such as construction of Moshupa hospital and stadium should be sourcing sand from the trusts.
He said development of a museum at the Battle of Dimawe site was on the pipeline and expressed gratitude for such a project. ENDS
