Batawana tribal authority has suspended registration of civil cases to pave way for the ploughing season.
Speaking during the declaration of the ploughing season held at Batawana main kgotla on October 12, Kgosi Oleyo Ledimo said only criminal and existing civil cases would be heard.
Registration of new civil cases, he said, would not be entertained until the end of ploughing season to enable members of the community to effectively utilise their lands to improve food security.
Earlier on, Batawana regent, Kgosi Kealetile Moremi had called on Batawana to take advantage of the early rains and plough in large numbers.
She said the outbreak of COVID-19 had taught Batswana that they should work hard to improve food security and reduce the import bill.
Kgosi Moremi urged farmers to take farming seriously and ensure food availability, adding that agriculture was a source of food for every household, and if practiced properly, there would be a reduction in the number of people living in poverty and extreme hunger.
Furthermore, she explained that Batawana were capable of utilising their land productively to ensure adequate food.
“I challenge you all to commit yourselves to farming and address the issue of starvation. Let us pray for good rains so that we have better yields,” she added.
Kgosi Moremi implored Batawana to fence their fields and criticised thatse who vandalised fences, which she said were expensive to maintain.
She thanked Spiritual Healing Church for taking the lead and ensuring the event was a success.
Reverend Selema Pitsela of Spiritual Healing Church urged all to look upon the Lord and ask for his intervention to bring good rains. He encouraged farmers around the country to pull up their socks to produce enough food for their households. ENDS
