Look beyond current reality focus on examinations

It is important that learners look beyond the current reality and focus on the examinations, says Jwaneng Mine assistant general manager Mr Mogakolodi Maoketsa.
Giving the keynote address at the Jwaneng Mayor’s Candlelight session for completing learners recently, he said pupils were faced with new realities of home schooling and lack of physical contact with others.
“There is need to adjust to the changes that have been brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, also taking into consideration the actual stress of preparing and sitting for the examinations,” he said.
He encouraged learners to keep their motivation high as well as to stay focused and believe in themselves as they prepared for the examinations.
Mr Maoketsa said although the pandemic had affected education systems worldwide leading to near-total closure of schools, those who desired success could still make it.
“Remember, without commitment you will not make the grade. Try different techniques until you master your tasks,” he said.
Mr Maoketsa challenged learners to be passionate about their studies and to invest more energy into learning.
“If you have revised well, the information will be there and it will come flooding back when you see the examination questions. My best wishes are with you,” he said.
He called on parents and families to assume a leading role in supporting their children’s education.
Mr Maoketsa said research had shown that when schools and parents worked together, children became more engaged in their studies and performed better.
In his welcome remarks earlier, Jwaneng deputy mayor, Mr Keolopile Pema said the aim of the event was to wish all learners the best of luck as well as to motivate them.
He said the council fully acknowledged the challenges learners had undergone this year as a result of the coronavirus and thanked the Ministry of Basic Education for ensuring that learning continued in the midst of the pandemic.
Mr Pema also thanked parents for assisting their children and making learning possible even during lockdown.
“We hope that you have thoroughly revised all that you have studied so far and take your exams with full confidence. Wishing you all the success in your exams,” he said. ends
