BNSC awards in offing

Acting Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) chief executive officer, Tuelo Serufo says the annual sports awards will be held next month. 

Serufo told a media briefing on Sunday that  due to the COVID-19 protocols, the awards would be partly virtual and live.

 

He pointed out that some recipients and presenters would be participating live from one place, while the majority would connect through different virtual platforms.

He highlighted that categories had not changed, citing sports administrator of the year, sports man and woman of the year, referee and best coach of the year, non- citizen sports administrator of the year, among others.

 

Serufo revealed that this year, there would be an additional category for women who have had a positive impact on transformation of women sporting codes and encouraging other women to fully engage in sport.

Meanwhile, he said as athletes had been negatively affected by COVID-19 pandemic, government had put some initiatives in place to cushion them.

 

He said some athletes had already  benefitted from the set sport relief funds adding that some initiatives would also be rolled out to continue supporting athletes during the pandemic.

On other issues, Serufo noted that BNSC continued to support the well being of some of the injured athlete by assisting them to receive proper medical care and other necessities.

 

He further said boxer, Tefo Maitewa was likely to be released from hospital to be taken care of at home adding that his family would be assisted accordingly. ends
