Ncube makes BFA national executive committee cut

Lobito Ncube has been voted in as female representative in the Botswana Football Association (BFA) National Executive Committee.
Ncube, who was one of the six women who were vying for different positions in BFA during the association’s ordinary general assembly held over the weeked, was the only one who made the cut.
She beat Itsholeng Disang in a re-run with 32-22 votes.
Other women who contested for the female representative position were Tsoseletso Magang and Joy Setshedi, who were eliminated in first round after pulling lower votes of 11 and one respectively.
Kesego Okie and Theresa Hirschfeld also lost.
Okie, however did not give her opponent victory on a silver platter as in the first she and Alec Monyake got 25 votes each while in the second round, they both amassed 30 votes each.
However, in the final round, Monyake won with 32 votes while Okie got 23 votes.
Meanwhile, in an interview, International Working Group (IWG) on Women and Sport, executive board member, Game Mothibi said the results indicated that while participation of women in world football was moving forward, Botswana was still lagging behind.
As such, she challenged new BFA NEC members to use their tenure to educate football community on the rights of women in football and the importance of having women in the leadership of the BFA.
Mothibi said she could pick during the campaign that BFA needed to work more on gender equality.
Thus, she said it was a challenge for Ncube and all the women who contested for elections and did not make it as well as other women, men and BFA structures to work together to grow women’s football.
“It can never be business as usual. We expect the same courage, spirit, fight that was displayed during campaign to be used to fight for women and girls in football,” she said.
Mothibi however said, she was proud that women changed the football elections’ tone, as they dominated this year’s campaign.
“They did all they could do. They put in a good fight.
There is nothing more they could have done differently,” she said. ENDS
