Carelessness may spread COVID-19

08 Oct 2020

Ramotswa MP, Mr Lefoko Moagi, has cautioned Batswana against carelessness when dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr Moagi said this during a series of meetings in his constituency recently.

He emphasised that the disease was deadly, adding that the district had already recorded two deaths due to COVID-19 and positive cases continued to rise.

Mr Moagi, also Minister of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security, said the Ramotswa-Otse Cluster had registered over 120 positive cases.

Therefore, he said, the pandemic would thrive should the community continue to ignore health protocols.

The Ramotswa MP also regretted that some people registered wrong contact numbers, something, which defeated efforts of contact tracing.

Some community leaders raised concern that some residents seemed to doubt COVID-19’s existence, hence ignoring health protocols.

In Otse, Kgosi Mothusi Tsetse said some people deliberately ignored health protocols such as avoiding crowds, wearing masks, sanitising or washing hands.

He said Otse Dam had turned into a hub of leisure as revelers camped there for long hours

Kgosi Tsetse said the situation was further compounded by failure to adhere to health protocols.

He said their efforts to disperse crowds never bore any fruit.

Kgosi Tsetse said this was so despite the fact that Otse had registered over 20 positive cases.

He regretted that some of the people who gathered around the dam were public officers who could be helping the village leadership to sensitise the community about the pandemic.

Apart from people gathering illegally, Kgosi Tsetse said some Otse residents continued to sneak to South Africa on personal errands.

In Ramotswa, Kgosi Mosadi Seboko also reiterated that some people had not yet embraced the war against coronavirus. Ends
