Expedite service delivery for better Botswana

08 Oct 2020

Kanye South MP, Dr Lemogang Kwape, has challenged public servants to do everything in their power to expedite service delivery.

Speaking during a series of consultative meetings in Lefoko, Tsonyane and Seherelela on Tuesday, he said expedited delivery services could offer a valuable recourse for people in critical situations.

Dr Kwape, who is also Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation, said providing convenient and time-saving delivery services was paramount in resuscitating the economy after the  COVID-19 pandemic blow.

The area MP stated that government was introspecting on its projects to shed light on the direction to take and the amount of energy needed to increase the push on those projects.

He said the review aimed at assessing the continued relevance of an intervention and the progress made towards achieving the planned objectives, adding that such provided an opportunity to make modifications to ensure achievement of these objectives.

Dr Kwape said government was committed to transforming the economy through refocusing existing policies, strategies and programmes in order to create an inclusive economy with greater citizen participation, noting that such spoke volumes on promotion of export-led growth and ensuring more efficient government spending and financing.

He said budgetary constraints hindered government to effectively and efficiently deliver on the promised mandate, but however opined that prudent financial management remained the corner stone of the government purse.

Dr Kwape spoke of the need to assist constituents accordingly, citing people living with disability (PLWD) and the less-fortunate.

He told constituents that it was principal to optimise water and electricity reticulation systems in the area so as to meet the demand.

On other issues, Dr Kwape decried social ills such as murder-suicide and rape.

He said something needed to be done to ensure that societies were free from acts which are bedeviling the nation.

The MP said assets declaration was a positive step in the right direction to thwart corruption that deprived genuinely deserving and unsuspecting people the right to obtain services and commodities as well as opportunities of making money arising from undue favour awarded to unscrupulous people.

A resident of Tsonyane, Mr Dikgang Ratholo, implored land board authorities to expedite land allocation arguing that if applicants stayed too long they could end up using the money that could have been used to develop plots. ENDS
