06 Oct 2020
Member of Parliament for Ramotswa, Mr Lefoko Moagi, has called on government departments to collaborate and offer improved service to the community.
The MP, who is also the Minister of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security, said this on Monday when addressing heads of departments in his constituency.
Mr Moagi said the departmental collaboration would enable officers to achieve more for the community, adding that departments had been created to develop and improve lives.
He cautioned that development of the constituency was dependent on public officers’s team work.
Therefore, he said, it would be uncalled for to have one department having many resources at its disposal and refuse to share with those with limited resources.
Furthermore, he stressed the need to share information with his office and other community leaders so that situations would be attended timely.
Regarding COVID-19, Mr Moagi said there was an outcry from the community that the contact tracing teams took time to get back to clients.
He said this led to delays in testing and issuing of results, hence the need for health officials to communicate with clients whenever they encountered delays.
However, an official from DHMT, Dr Violet Baruti said the delay was caused by stretched resources such as vehicles and staff.
She said the team was overwhelmed by the exercise and added that the contact tracing teams did not have airtime, something that she said was being addressed.
Monitoring and evaluation officer from office of the district commissioner, Ms Sebaga Manyothwane, said the COVD-19 pandemic had an impact on the school syllabus.
Ms Manyothwane said the situation was further compounded by teachers and pupils who had to go on isolation.
Furthermore, she stated that junior and secondary schools had been faced with a shortage of textbook owing to limited funds.
However, she noted that South-East South Sub-district had received textbook books donation from Botswana Open University.
Ms Manyothwane said another problem facing the sub-district was that of illegal immigrant adding that from April to September, the sub-district recorded 26 border jumpers.
She regretted that despite the severity of the COVID -9, some community members’ labour such illegal immigrants. ENDS
