25 COVID-19 active cases in Kweneng

28 Sep 2020

Kweneng District currently has 25 COVID-19 active cases, its health management team’s principal technical officer Ms Seneo Ranonyana has revealed.

Speaking during the month of prayer against HIV/AIDS and COVID-19 closing ceremony in Molepolole September 27, she said 15 people were on self-quarantine due to limited space at government facilities while 10 were admitted at Sir Ketumile Masire Teaching Hospital. Ms Ranonyana said the total number of COVID-19 positive cases in the district had reached 139, with 52 recorded in Molepolole alone.

She said it was disturbing that the disease had spread to schools. Ms Ranonyana said 11 positive cases, all on home quarantine,  were recorded at Kgari Sechele and Kweneng International senior schools, Motswasele Junior, Lephaleng, Kealeboga, Regent and Shepherd primary schools.

She called upon dikgosi and other community leaders to help disseminate information on COVID-19 related issues and take prompt action on activities that worked against health protocols.

Ms Ranonyana said public transport users who ignored COVID-19 protocols made contact tracing difficult.

She also called on people to desist from violating the rules by serving food during public gatherings such as weddings and funerals.

Meanwhile, the Kweneng District AIDS Coordinating Office’s monitoring and evaluation officer, Mr Kemisetso Ntshese, has expressed gratitude  for  adherence to health protocols  which he said had resulted in a significant decline to 0.1 per cent in the number of patients dying while on ARV treatment.

The decrease, he said, signified that Batswana were now heading in the right direction with regard to adherence.

He said registration under Orphan Care Programme was another area with positive response as orphans continued to graduate, a further illustration that people were no longer dying because of the scourge.

Mr Ntshese however expressed concern about increasing sexually transmitted illness numbers, especially among females adding that males were reluctant to test.

For his part, Pastor Emmanuel Ngwako of the Molepolole Minister’s Fraternal stressed the importance of incorporating life skills in the  school curriculum at an early stage in order to raise morally-driven children.

Pastor Ngwako urged Batswana to be grateful for their lives and ensure peace and tranquility prevailed in Botswana.

The event was organised by the Ministers’ Fraternal in conjunction with the District AIDS Coordinating Office. Ends
