Dikoloti calls for national unity in war against COVID-19

28 Sep 2020

It is critical for the nation to unite in the fight against COVID-19 through universal adherence to all health protocols, says Minister of Health and Wellness Dr Edwin Dikoloti.

The minister was speaking during the commemoration of national month of prayer for HIV/AIDS and COVID-19 in Gaborone on September 27, Minister Dikoloti stressed that the fight against COVID-19 required efforts of all individuals.

Expressing worry about the rate at which coronavirus was spreading in Botswana, Minister Dikoloti emphasised that everyone should take responsibility for controlling its transmission.

He said fighting an invisible enemy such as the coronavirus was not easy and cautioned Batswana to avoid unnecessary travel for the independence holidays.

Dr Dikoloti urged Batswana to celebrate the independent holidays in a manner that would not put their lives at risk.

“…therefore let us not be ignorant of the health protocols, lest we find ourselves in trouble,” he said.

COVID-19, he noted, had not only affected the health and wellness sector, but had equally ravaged economies as well as movement of goods between nations.

Minister Dikoloti applauded Gaborone City Council for organising the national prayer session to motivate the nation and give Batswana hope.

He encouraged the nation not to lose heart but to pray earnestly to God for a solution.

Meanwhile, Gaborone Central MP, Mr Tumisang Healy has encouraged leaders and other stakeholders to speak against Gender Based Violence (GBV)  on all platforms.

Everyone, he said,  needed to pledge and demonstrate their sincerity in reducing incidences of GBV which had put Botswana  in a bad light. Ends
