The MP for Tlokweng, Mr Thulagano Segokgo, has thanked public health employees for their selfless service in delivering health services to the community.

Mr Segokgo, who is also Minister of Transport and Communications, said this on September 25, during a tour of clinics in his constituency.

Health professionals, he said have been at the forefront of delivering quality health services such as health education and promotion as well as providing treatment and care.

He added that there was need to salute health staff for their contribution to the health of the community.

“I know this because I am your client. I get my health services here,” he told Mafhitlhakgosi Clinic employees, further adding that he valued the contribution of public health services.

He said he was not ashamed that he was diagnosed with tuberculosis which was treated at Mafhitlhakgosi Clinic.

Mr Segokgo added that public health facilities remained his preferred destination for health services even up to date, adding, however, that he did not have anything against private practitioners.

Furthermore, he said health practitioners also ought to be commended for their efforts in caring for the community during the COVID 19 pandemic.

The MP said such gestures showed their selflessness and dedication to community health.

He noted that health workers interacted with patients on a daily basis, and that it put their own lives as well as that of their families at risk.

“Sometimes we do not get a chance to say thank you after being treated, but we are thankful,” he said.

Still at the clinic, Mr Segokgo was told that the facility, which offered 24 hours service, faced challenges such as long queues and shortage of doctors.

Clinic matron, Ms Anita Moseki said they were faced with shortage of accommodation, and that some staff members stayed far from the workplace.

At the Tlokweng Main Clinic, matron Ms Keneilwe Seleke said they were in need of more chairs to cater for their clients.

She said since the outbreak of COVID-19, keeping social distancing has necessitated the need for more space hence some clients stood long under the sun.

Ms Seleke said the clinic needed shelter where they could register clients, and that their standby generator had long been dysfunctional.

In response, Mr Segokgo promised to relay all concerns from the facilities to relevant stakeholders, including that of shortage of personnel which was raised by both facilities. ENDS
