Integrity key in fight against corruption

The director general of the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC), Mr Tymon Katlholo says Batswana have a mammoth task of fighting corruption in order to restore the country to its glory days.
He said the country was faced with a challenge of corruption and that governance ratings have dropped leading to the country been greylisted.
Mr Katlholo made the remarks at a meet and greet session with Maun DCEC staff recently. He said the nation of Botswana has lost its integrity somewhere along the way.
Integrity, he said, was underpinned on moral and ethical grounds as well as valuing people over material things and having principles.
He implored Maun DCEC staff to have characteristics that were defined by integrity.
He reminded his staff that people who fought corruption ought to uphold integrity as corruption undermined honesty.
Mr Katlholo further urged the officers to guard against coronavirus by adhering to the prevention protocols and following the advice of health professionals.
In his welcome remarks, DCEC senior assistant director, Mr Oteng Seemule explained that the Maun region, which had about 25 staff members, was experiencing a shortage of staff accommodation and that some officers shared houses.
He noted that the Maun region had five plots which could be developed for staff accommodation.
Furthermore, he said P6 million had been allocated for staff houses and urged that the project should be fast tracked. ENDS
