Protocol adherence only medicine - VP
27 Sep 2020
Following COVID-19 health protocols is the only medicine Botswana currently has, says Vice President Slumber Tsogwane.
“We have to embrace our new normal way of life for the safety of the nation,” he told mourners at the funeral of former Okavango MP Mr Bagalatia Arone’s father in Sekondomboro recently.
COVID-19, Mr Tsogwane said, remained a serious threat and therefore required the nation to observe health protocols at all times.
The vice president noted that numbers of COVID-19 infected people were rising countrywide and encouraged all to seek medical attention as soon as they recognised coronavirus related symptoms.
Mr Tsogwane said it was important to understand and follow COVID-19 health protocols to avoid spreading the virus.
He warned that the highly infectious virus could spread easily at gatherings such as funerals hence the need to completely adhere to health protocols at all times.
The funeral was also graced by Nata Gweta MP, Mr Polson Majaga, MP for Chobe, Mr Machana Shamukuni, former Maun East MP, Mr Konstantinos Markus and former Okavango MP, Mr Vista Moruti among other dignitaries.
The deceased, Mr Arone Sekuni, who was appointed headman of arbitration at one of the wards in Sekondomboro in 2018, died at the age of 97.
He was laid to rest last Thursday. Ends
