Rentse Foundation Trust and Miss Charity 2018/2019 have donated food hampers, toiletries and blankets to less privileged families in Lesenepole.

Lesenepole was the 2018/19 pageant winner’s pick, Ms Gorata Dialwa, who also is a resident of Lesenepole.

Delivering the donations on September 25, trust programme manager, Mr Tsotlhe Maganu said with assistance from social workers, they identified 10 families in Lesenepole who had been affected by the effects of COVID-19. They each received goods valued at P550.

Rentse Foundation, a non-governmental and non-profit making organisation which has been operating since 2011, was founded by Ms Rentse Ugokwe, a humanitarian award winner.

The foundation was registered with the secretary of state in California, USA, where it had been operating before being registered and launched in Gaborone on March 1, 2014.

“The idea of the foundation came about after she went through a difficult time following the passing of her father when she was eight years old,” said Mr Maganu, who stressed that its aim was to build homes for the less privileged and children who were victims of HIV/AIDS.

“The main mission of this organisation is to provide orphans and elderly members of society with necessities and homes,” said Mr Maganu.

He noted that the trust had built houses in Palapye, Mogapinyana, Otse-Lephephe and intended to continue with its mission in other areas.

He said the achievement was made possible by support from organisation such as Filtration Africa, PST Sales and Distribution Gaborone, the Chinese community in Botswana, Commit Good, fund raising events and individual sponsorships.

Mr Maganu noted that the trust embarked on charitable initiatives through the Miss Charity 2018-2019 pageant that was held in Gaborone in 2018. He said the purpose was not only to raise funds for the underprivileged, but also to encourage the community to give back in order to build a healthy society.

Proceeds from the pageant, Mr Maganu said, were used to build a house for an elderly person in Otse-Lephephe.

He said the Miss Charity pageant also assisted Kotolaname Primary School pupils who were disadvantaged with school uniform.

Kgosi Molekodi Tumelo of Lesenepole appreciated the trust and Miss Charity 2018/2019 for the donations. ENDS
