Rhino Conservation Botswana held talks on importance of conserving rhinos with Matsaudi Primary School pupils on Tuesday to mark World Rhino day commemoration.
Rhino Conservation Botswana monitors rhinos found around the Okavango Delta.
In an interview, the organisation’s community development officer Ms Mary Hastag, said they had identified five schools in Maun and surrounding areas to be taught about conservation.
She said the World Rhino Day had been commemorated since 2010 after realisisation that Rhinos were declining.
Ms Hastag said the talks with pupils were in association with a PHD student from Germany who produced a movie about rhinos for pupils to appreciate.
The student, Ms Vera Pfannerstill, said she studied rhino sounds as part of her research in association with Okavango Research Institute.
Ms Pfannerstill said it was a privilege for her to do a research on rhinos since they were one of rare species in the world.
She said she promoted rhinos since they were amazing animals.
The Rhino Conservation Botswana also visited Komana Primary School and Maun Senior Secondary Schools. ENDS
