Kgatleng District Council Chairperson Mr Daniel Molokwe has hailed donors for the  food hampers they donated to Modipane-Mokatse COVID-19 Task Team.

 Such donations, he noted during an appreciation ceremony at Modipane recently, came in handy during lock-down when people could not fend for themselves.

The chairman, who was speaking on behalf of Kgatleng East MP Mabuse Pule, said the donations were highly appreciated as they were brought in at the time when individuals were confined to their homes in observation of extreme social distancing measure meant to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

“Without the Modipane-Mokatse COVID-19 team under the leadership of the deputy school head Ms Ezzy Machobane, we would have struggled in fulfilling our mandate of ensuring that members of our community do not starve during the period of lock-down which was necessary in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.”

Kgatleng district as the council chairperson highlighted, was at one pointed rated the lowest in food distribution, stemming from the decision to start food distribution at cattle-posts and masimo, adding that donations from the business community and individuals made tremendous difference in that it eventually helped Kgatleng district to be among the best councils as far as food distribution was concerned. 

The council chairman went on to encourage the donors to keep up the spirit of giving, as they would be rewarded for attending to the needs of the less privileged.

“Let us be reminded that the battle is still on. Be encouraged and know that your efforts are being recognised and appreciated. Keep up the good work,” the chairperson advised.

Meanwhile the team’s chairperson Ms Machobane applauded donors to have rescued them at the time when the need was so dire as people were compelled to remain in their homes.

She said the business communities identified needs and acted promptly through the help of Social and Community Development (S&CD) officers. 

“It was then that we liaised with S&CD to help identify eligible individuals, who eventually benefited from the gestures that benefited around 1 000 households.” Ends
