Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, Tumiso Rakgare has announced the lifting of restrictions for sport and recreational activities.

Briefing the nation on Friday, Rakgare said all sports and recreational facilities may host sports and recreational activities daily with not more than 50 participants and 50 officials.

He said recreational sports activities allowed to resume include practice and training, social games, competitive sports and recreational sports.

He indicated that all persons in attendance of sport and recreational activity shall be provided with clean water and soap to wash hands or with a sanitiser throughout the duration of the activity.

He also said no person shall be allowed to travel across COVID-19 zones for purposes of a sport or recreational activity.

Sports and recreational facilities, he explained, would be subject to close upon the realisation that COVID-19 protocols were flouted.

He further said the sale and consumption of alcohol at the said activities would not be allowed, nor sharing of water bottles and hydration containers.

He appealed to all to assist the COVID-19 Task Force Team in the prevention and spread of the virus.

He said the effects of the pandemic on the sports and entertainment sectors could not be overemphasised adding that if protocols were followed as outlined in the Government Gazette, it would be defeated. ENDS
