Parliament has learnt that 20 farm sub-divisions have been awarded to prospective investors or farmers at Banyana Farms.

The awards were under Phase 1 and Phase 2 of restructuring. Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security, Mr Karabo Gare said Phase 1 recommended that Banyana Farms be restructured and sub leased to private investors in 2010 as part of the Botswana Economic Advisory Council strategy.

“Banyana Farms is viewed as having immense potential to impact positively to beef sector and national economy,” Mr Gare said.

He said under Phase 2 restructuring, farms had been sub divided into 12 sub divisions in April 2018 for sub leasing to a number of farmers and companies.

Kgalagadi South MP, Mr Sam Brooks had asked the minister to apprise Parliament on farms awarded at Banyana Farms which was said to have happened in two phases as well as providing the names of  companies  awarded at Phase 1 and 2.ENDS
