Environmental cleanliness Mowana Copper Mine priority

17 Sep 2020

Mowana Copper Mine has vowed to continue protecting and keeping the environment clean as well as encouraging communities to do their part.

Speaking at the handing over of 12 waste bins at Mosetse recently, mine plant manager Mr Lloyd Nyoka said environmental cleanliness was a critical part of the company’s social responsibility programme.

The waste bins, totalling 24, were made by mine employees and were shared equally between Mosetse and Dukwi.

Mr Nyoka said since the mine was responsible for  ensuring the protection and cleanliness of the environment it was operating in, the company decided to provide the two villages with waste bins.

As part of the mine’s efforts to encourage proper waste disposal, the bins would be placed at strategic points across the two villages, said Mr Nyoka.

He said the donation was   fulfilment of a promise made during the national lockdown in April when the company was distributing  food parcels to the needy in the two villages.

The company, he added, had promised to continue being part of the two communities through different initiatives aimed at helping them.

Meanwhile, Mosetse herdman of arbitration, Kgosi Gakesekelwe Gabanewe said the company’s efforts gave the village leadership the responsibility to encourage people to make use of the garbage bins.

He said villages were littered with waste, a situation which could spread diseases to both human beings and livestock.

It was therefore imperative that people disposed of waste properly as directed by  environmental officers, he said. ends
