BDF recruited 38 from settlements

 Botswana Defence Force (BDF ) recruited 38 officers from remote area dweller settlements in 2018.


The Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Kagiso Mmusi told Parliament on Wednesday that out of this number, one male officer was from Khwai while four other males were from Mababe and one from Phuduhudu.


Furthermore, he said the Botswana Police Service on the one hand recruited 19 officers from remote areas in 2018, saying there was one female from Mababe and one male from Phuduhudu.


He said recruitment of 39 candidates from remote areas by the BDF in 2019 and 24 by the police service saying none of them were recruited from Phuduhudu, Mababe and Khwai by either organization.


The minister said there were no intakes at both the BDF and the Police in 2020 due to covid-19 restrictions and operations.


He was answering a question from MP for Maun East, Mr Goretetse Kekgonegile who asked the minister to give an update on the affirmative action recruitment programme in the defence and security forces and to state the total number of 2018 and 2019 recruits into BDF and BPS from Mababe, Khwai and Phuduhudu.
