Rachele Primary School(RPS) School head has applauded former learners for giving back to the school.
Receiving 150 facemasks from RPS class of 1979, Ms Tshupetso Thibelang said it was a noble thing for young Batswana to look back, appreciate and give back to their communities.
She said their force of example also challenged them as a learning institution to work hard knowing that someone was taking notice.
Ms Thibelang said the facemasks would be given to needy learners and those who often came to school without masks.
She said they often find themselves having to painfully send some learners back home for coming to school without face coverings.
She said the donation would remain an abiding memory for the school. When handing over the donation the class spokesperson Ms Tiny Modise said the gesture was an expression of a wish to thank the school for having laid a foundation for them to become responsible, law abiding and independent citizens.
She said the idea occurred to them during the first coronavirus lockdown.
She said the idea was to set an example for other classes to also find ways to assist and make the school more conducive for teaching and learning.
Bagami ward Councillor Mr Boss Wakwena also applauded the class for the initiative and wished it could inspire kind gestures from other past classes.
Mr Wakwena also pledged to donate 100 facemasks to the school in due course.
PTA chairperson Mr Pako Ramaselwana said the gesture challenged them to do more.
Group member Ms Choice Chibana further seized the opportunity to urge the completing class to focus and see education as an instrument of power that could offer them avenues to the future they wished for. ENDS
