Stanbic bank donates to Palapye community

In line with its commitment to assist in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, Stanbic Bank in Palapye recently donated masks, basic toiletry hampers and sanitisers worth P260 000 to the Palapye COVID-19 response team for distribution to deserving community members.
Speaking at the donation ceremony, Palapye Stanbic Bank branch manager, Ms Tsholofelo Porakane said in addition to the donation, comprising 200 masks, 50 basic toiletry hampers as well as 300 hand sanitisers, Stanbic Bank had also donated P1 million to the COVID-19 Relief Fund and P100 000 to the University of Botswana’s Faculty of Medicine.
Ms Porakane highlighted that the bank sought to among others foster an environment that carefully unpacked the impact of COVID-19 on communities and offered ways to adapt and withstand its associated health consequences.
Emphasising the need for different stakeholders to each play a role in helping fight the pandemic, she acknowledged with pride, the progress and efforts that the government was making in the fight against COVID-19.
Ms Porakane encouraged people to continue taking precautionary measures to stay safe as a means of protecting their loved ones, communities and the nation.
“It is our effort that will indeed make a meaningful impact to our lives,” she said.
For her part, an official of the Ministry of Basic Education in Palapye Ms Ediretse Sebusang applauded the bank for making the donations, saying they would go a long way in helping the needy, among whom were orphans and learners.
She also challenged Stanbic Bank’s Palapye branch to consider extending a helping hand to Masupe Primary School in Maunatlala as well as Ratsie Primary School in Palapye, saying the schools’ special education units still lacked many things.
Palapye District Officer, Ms Lerato Sebola also appreciated the donations, explaining that they would be registered under COVID-19 relief fund and would be administered by the Palapye Admin Authority. ENDS
