The Minister of Tertiary Education, Research and Technology,  Dr Douglas Letsholathebe, has informed Parliament that plans are underway to maintain some internal roads in Kgalagadi North villages.

Answering a question on behalf of  Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Dr Letsholathebe said Tshane and Lehututu internal roads would be graveled during the current financial year. He said internal roads in Lokgwabe, Zutshwa, Ngwatle, Ukhwi, Maake and Inalegolo  would be graveled during the 2021/2022 financial year.

“So far, 1.5kms of internal roads in Lokgwabe were graveled during the last quarter of 2019/20,” he said.

In addition Dr Letsholathebe said local government and rural development ministry had developed a grading schedule for the entire district and recently bought new road construction equipment to ensure that while still mobilizing resources to gravel the internal roads, they are regularly graded to maintain favorable driving conditions.

The MP for Kgalagadi North, Ms Talitha Monnakgotla, had asked the minister to state whether the ministry would consider gravelling internal roads in Kgalagadi North villages. ENDS
