Official expresses worry about non-compliance

Lack of adherence to COVID-19 regulations by the community could have caused the recent rise in cases, an official of Lobatse District Health Management Team (DHMT) Mr Gaosenye Lechaena, has said.
Giving update on latest developments on September 8,, Mr Lechaena said the district recorded 16 new cases of COVID-19 between Saturday and Monday this week.
He said figures included two cases of Lobatse Senior Secondary School pupils, one case of learners at Pitikwe Junior Secondary School, and one of a standard one pupil in Mogojogojo.
“This shows that the disease is spreading. Close monitoring of these cases has indicated that people affected were from close social circles or are relatives.
This therefore show that some people are not strictly observing the COVID-19 protocols such as wearing face masks and social distancing,” Mr Lechaena said.
He further said there was a problem of people flouting self-quarantine regulations in the Lobatse health management district.
“There have been times when we asked people to quarantine themselves in their houses because we do not have enough facilities.
But it has given us challenges because some of those people kept on leaving their homes and in the process exposed the rest of the community to risk,” he said.
Mr Lechaena also urged people to strictly observe COVID-19 regulations whenever they held social gatherings such as wedding ceremonies, funerals and church services.
He further reminded the community that, under the regulations, serving food to people during social gatherings was still prohibited. ENDS
