Good Hope residents have embarked on a continuous clean-up campaign.
The Village Development Committee (VDC) Chairperson Mr Boifang Tumetsane said in an interview that after realising that the village was in a bad state, the committee, together with the Dikgosi, came up with the initiative, which was launched last weekend.
He said more than 70 people took part in the first leg of campaign.
He said cleanliness of the environment was also critical in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, adding that they managed to clean all Good Hope ward surroundings.
Mr Tumetsane said for the initiative to be successful, they had proposed to partner with government departments.
He urged all residents of Good Hope to take part, stressing that as the village belonged to them all, it was their responsibility to keep it clean.
He also urged residents of other Barolong villages to adopt the initiative.
Meanwhile, he advised residents to pay for garbage collection at the council to curb illegal dumping.
During a council meeting last month, the Good Hope Sub-district Council Chairperson, Mr Boniface Leshomo voiced concern that they were not doing well regarding waste management.
He however said the procurement processes were ongoing to engage small contractors to help, which he hoped would alleviate the situation. ENDS
