Ministry awards 15 contracts to Chinese companies

Fifteen contracts amounting to more P3.4 billion were awarded to Chinese companies  in the last seven years.

According to the Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Thulagano Segokgo eight Chinese Companies were engaged in the ICT sectors to deploy infrastructure at a total cost of over P160 million over the last  seven years while seven Chinese companies were engaged by the Transport Sector on nine projects at a cost of over P3 billion.

Mr Segokgo said he could not confirm the amount spent on corporate social investment by each company relative to the awarded tenders so far since ‘this was normally done outside the contractual scope of the project.’

He however confirmed that all of them had done activities of a corporate social responsibility nature.

Mr Segokgo was responding to a question from MP for Jwaneng Mabutsane, Mr Mephato Reatile  who asked the minister to state the names, number  and total amount of projects or tenders awarded to chinese companies in the last seven years. 

 

Mr Ratile also asked  the minister to state the amount spent on corporate social responsibility investment by each company so far. BOPA
