Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Ministry of Basic Education and Orange Botswana have joined efforts to facilitate lifelong learning for pupils across the country.

This was said by local government ministry public relations officer Mr Masego Ramakgati when handing over a donation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment worth over P92 512 from Orange Botswana to Boatlaname Primary School in Kweneng District on September 8.

Mr Ramakgati said the gift, comprising 50 tablets and chargers, two solar panels, a video projector and headphones, was in line with Orange Botswana’s objective  of providing primary school learners with platforms for collaborative learning and knowledge networking.

The school is among 20 primary schools across the country which have benefitted from the initiative since its inception in 2018.

Mr Ramakgati said the donation was assurance of government’s commitment towards ensuring the use of IT in all schools.

Molepolole Administrative Authority Sub-council chairman, Mr Allen Jacob expressed gratitude for the Orange Botswana gesture.

The donation, he said, would contribute immensely to the development of education in the area.

On another issue, senior assistant council secretary, Mr Gofaone Kgabanyane made assurance to the effect that plans were underway to address the Boatlaname electricity issue.

“We are aware of the prevailing state of affairs at Boatlaname Primary School and currently working on the modalities to resolve power challenges at the school in the next two years,” said Mr Kgabanyane.

Meanwhile Kgosi Rudolf Mojalemotho of Boatlaname has decried the stalled installation of electricity at the school despite promises, the project was yet to be fulfilled.

The situation was affecting the school’s academic performance, he complained.

Due to lack of electricity,  donated equipment remained unutilised, said Kgosi Mojalemotho citing a donation of computers made in 2015. ENDS
