Police in Serowe are investigating an accident in which a 14-year-old Mannathoko Secondary School pupil was seriously injured after being knocked down by car along the Serowe/Orapa road Tuesday morning.
In an interview, the Traffic Officer District No.2, Superintendent Milidziani Mbayi said the accident happened near Basiamisi Lodge at Mannathoko ward in Serowe.
The boy was rushed to Sekgoma Memorial Hospital in Serowe and was referred to Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital in Francistown.
Supt. Mbayi said a Toyota Wish which was heading to Orapa from the Serowe knocked down Basiamisi Lodge’s screen wall.
He said the vehicle was driven by a 25-year-old man who failed to produce a driver’s license.
He said preliminary police investigations showed that the driver was speeding and lost control of the car.
Eyewitness, Ms Raotshepha Gojahile, who is an employee at the Lodge said in an interview that she was preparing breakfast for customers when she heard a loud bang.
She said the kitchen which was close to the screen wall was partly affected.
Supt Mabayi raised a concern about the people who drive vehicles without licences.
He said in many instances, parents give their children their cars to drive without licenses.
He noted that such cases were worrisome and giving police sleepless nights hence their appeal to the public to always avoid allowing unlicensed people to drive their cars. ENDS
