08 Sep 2020
South East District Council and Gaborone City Council have recruited 58 and 133 qualified scorpions respectively through Ipelegeng practice of ‘yes or no.’
Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Kgotla Autlwetse told Parliament that those recruited had not reported for duty because they were not issued with appointment letters.
However, Mr Autlwetse said the ministry had resolved to issue candidates with appointment letters to conclude their appointment adding that they would start work mid-September.
Mr Autlwetse further said candidates would be paid from their date of assumption of duty and would be allowed to continue to work until 31st March 2021.
He also said the candidates would receive all their benefits upon completion of their contracts.
Maun East MP, Mr Goretetse Kekgonegile had asked the minister if he was aware that qualified Scorpions employed by South East District Council and Gaborone City Council had not reported for duty after their employment and to further clarify when would they start their duties.
The minster was also to state whether the scorpions were paid whilst awaiting posting to duty stations. BOPA
