DC asks officers to exercise diligence
02 Sep 2020
The South East District Commissioner, Ms Sebokwane Dikgope has urged public officers in the district to be diligent when offering services to the public.
The district commissioner who was speaking during a District Development Committee meeting on Tuesday, said the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic required that public officers exercise diligence in execution of duties.
She said both the Public Services Act and the Public Service Charter were still applicable, hence officers should adhere to strict time management, dress code and language at all times.
She advised them to be exemplary at and outside work, adding ‘the way we conduct ourselves should be admirable’.
She called on office managers to ensure that their subordinates adhered to the Public Service Act and the Public Service Charter.
Meanwhile, Ms Dikgope commended the officers who were on duty during the national lockdown, especially those who were issuing movement permits and distributing food rations, saying they did their work exceptionally well, despite the challenges they encountered.
She highlighted that the district had been facing a challenge of entry into the country through ungazetted points, which put the area at risk of COVID-19 spread.
Therefore, she called for teamwork to thwart all efforts, which could work against the district protecting itself from the virus spread.
“Let us continue observing COVID-19 health protocols,” she pleaded.
She said the surge of the virus in Gaborone should not be taken lightly by the district, as their residents intermingle on a daily basis, when accessing services such as shops, banking and others.
Further, she said the majority of the district’s workers stayed in Gaborone, while some workers stayed in the district due to its proximity to Gaborone. Ends
