02 Sep 2020

Mahalapye District Health Management Team (DHMT) has trained health personnel in all health facilities under its jurisdiction for prevention and control measures in the COVID-19 fight.

Sharing with the council the Sub-district committee report on Monday, deputy district commissioner, Mr Bakuedi Masole said a total of 235 healthcare workers were trained to implement and enforce the measures on a continuous basis in all health facilities.

Trained health personnel included doctors, nurses, Allied Health Professionals, paramedics, health education officers, support personnel, administration officers, cleaners, security officers and ambulance drivers, who were to also educate the public in their respective locations.

Mr Masole explained that there was an isolation centre for COVID-19 in Mahalapye, which had 12 self-contained rooms.

To create more space in the isolation centre, the district commissioner said the DHMT was in pursuit of obtaining 26 porta cabins in the open space.

Councillor for Mahalapye South, Mrs Abigail Mogalakwe said that social distancing was not observed at Mowana Health Post because there was no shelter for screening people.

Ms Thandie Kgosiesele, coordinator for Mahalapye DHMT assured the council that they would make a follow up on all health posts to ensure that COVID-19 regulations were observed.

Councillor for Mahalapye North, Ms Julia Miranda stated that lack of medicines in health posts was a concern as some patients could not afford to buy at pharmacies.

Commenting on what Councillor Miranda said, Ms Kgosiesele explained that they had been given money by the ministry to buy medicines that were not available in clinics. ENDS
