Gesture widens tertiary education access

Limkokwing University of Creative Technology has been praised for empowering people living with disabilities, orphans and marginalised groups through education.

Speaking at the university’s scholarship launch recently after receiving an over P3 million sponsorship for people with special needs, director-Coordinating Office for People with Disabilities Mr Thomas Motingwa said the gesture would widen access to tertiary education for special needs people.

Mr Motingwa, who was representing assistant minister for Presidential Affairs Governance and Public Administration Mr Dumezweni Mthimkulu, said Limkokwing’s partnership with government was a crucial step in fostering the inclusion of marginalised groups in the education sector.

According to Mr Motingwa, the institution had demonstrated commitment towards the country’s economic endeavours and uplifting as well as upskilling communities plus youth to drive the future through technology.

He further thanked the university for furthering government’s efforts to transform Botswana into a knowledge-based economy.

The university’s head of public relations Ms Mercy Thebe said the sponsorship was part of Limkokwing’s P17 267 340 scholarship award availed through the Limkokwing Foundation of Excellence and Education. 

 

The intention was to upskill and upscale Batswana and other beneficiaries in the region, she said.BOPA
