30 Aug 2020

Limkokwing University of Creative Technology has recently announced the awarding of over P17 million worth of scholarships to ministries and embassies across southern Africa.

Speaking during the launch,  Minister of Youth Development, Sports and Culture Development, Mr Tumiso Rakgare noted that part of the sponsorship would be availed for the institution’s alumni.

The scholarship would enhance the quality of learning in the country as well as uplift beneficiaries’ lives and the country at large, he said.

Minister Rakgare described the sponsorship as a yardstick for the country’s transformational agenda towards a knowledge based economy.

The socio-economic development of the country, he said, would greatly benefit from knowledgeable and solution-based change agents.

“There is no better way to empower an individual than to give him knowledge,“ said Mr Rakgare.

Accepting 20 scholarships awarded his ministry directed at the creative arts, Minister Rakgare said the sponsorship would be a great instrument in widening horizons for creatives including providing them with competitive knowledge to upscale their talents.

He said local creatives were  talented and if well nurtured, would help the creative sector contribute to the country’s Gross Domestic Product.

The minister expressed appreciation for the goodwill demonstrated by Limkokwing University saying it would be an instrument of growth in the creative sector.

Meanwhile, the institution’s director of academic management, Ms Onalenna Phambuka said the sponsorship was  meant to enhance skills and talents for the socio-economic development of the country.

That, she said, was achievable through upskilling individuals in different sectors.

Ms Phambuka said the university and its patrons were honoured to present the scholarships as part of the mandate to transform Botswana into a knowledge based economy. Ends
