Masupu commends Good Hope team
30 Aug 2020
Presidential COVID-19 Task Force Team coordinator, Dr Kereng Masupu, has commended a task team in Good Hope for ensuring that the district followed measures to prevent spread of the coronavirus.
Speaking in an interview recently after visiting villages along the border, he said, there had been improvement in following health protocols.
He also said since the villages were within a red zone, it was important to always visit and sensitise the public about dangers of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said local transmissions were increasing, therefore, he urged people to continue following safety measures.
Dr Masupu, said after meeting staff at the border and truck drivers, he realised that complaints had significantly gone down.
On other issues, he said he was aware of the border jumpers in these villages and indicated that this continued to be a challenge.
He said border jumping was a lifestyle for residents, but it posed a danger for both Botswana and South Africa.
Dr Masupu said most of the residents had relatives and friends across the border.
Some, he said, accessed services in South Africa, therefore this was something they were already used to.
Dr Masupu said the challenge needed to be looked at by the two countries to see how they could be resolved.
He urged the residents to realise that COVID-19 was increasing in the country therefore they needed to protect themselves. Ends
